Section 8 Rental Assistance Programs Continued...

DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS

Thirteen housing authorities, including West Hartford, formed a contractual relationship with John D'Amelia and Associates for the purpose of bidding on the administration of 8,000 Section 8, Rental Assistance Program (RAP) and Transitional Rental Assistance Program (T-RAP) units allocated to the Department of Social Services. The Section 8 program includes participants in the Welfare-to-Work, Family Unification, Mainstream and Family SeIf-Sufficiency programs. As one of the sub-contractors to the successful bidder, the West Hartford Housing Authority now administers Section 8 programs in 17 communities. This program assists 800 families.

NON PROFIT CORPORATION

The Housing Authority created a separate non-profit, the West Hartford Housing Corporation. The activities or purposes of the Corporation are to acquire, develop, manage and rehabilitate affordable housing and to develop and operate programs for recipients of affordable housing and such other related purposes as permitted by law. The non profit offers property management services to owners on a fee basis.
